Not As Easy As It Looks But Worth the Work
I have had many people tell me that this isn't as easy as it looks. Luckily, I finally called the right person, Kerri (nickname K) LaRoe at Kerri.LaRoe@state.vt.us or 828-0422 and she provided two clear step by step sets of directions on how to do this (no, you don't have to go through the Arts Council after all).
There are a few details to know about this process.
1. It can be a two step process if you want to register yourself in the state's business directory, this becomes a permanent part of their database for you to edit as you need to. For instance if you are have gallery shows or events that change, then this is the way to go. It probably makes sense to do as the database is searchable year round.
First you register on the business directory and then you register an event.
When you are asked to pick a category from the following Lodging, Dining establishment, Attraction, Shopping or Recreation related business., according to K, pick shopping.
2. Have both a short and long description of your business ready. (Yes, folks, here is another chance to write about yourself). In the short description, stick to a brief two sentences about your work or your site. Expand this to a paragraph or so, in the long description.
OR Only Register Your Event
If you choose to do this, you cannot edit your listing afterwards and your information is not permanent. It is deleted after the event is over.
That's all you need, plus about 20 minutes in front of the computer.
Don't forget to put "Open Studio at" or something like it in the subject line.
K says to call her if you are confused. 828-0422.
See below for directions on how to do both processes.
